Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 1:50 p.m. on February 18, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey single-family house in the 100 block of Larchdale Crescent. Once on scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames. An interior offensive attack was launched and the fire, which originated in the kitchen, was declared extinguished at 2:25 p.m.
Winnipeg, MB – At 2:05 a.m. on February 17, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, multi-family house in the 100 block of Jarvis Avenue. Once on scene, crews found a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows. Initially an exterior, defensive attack was employed, but after knocking down some of the flames, crews were able to enter the structure, transitioning to an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:25 a.m.
Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, February 15, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic (WFPS) crews responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Inkster Boulevard and Parr Street. No one involved in the collision was injured.
However, while WFPS crews were on scene, another vehicle drove through the scene, clipped a firefighter and then crashed into a home. Police were immediately dispatched, and took the driver into custody.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s Chief Administrative Officer submitted a letter to the Mayor and members of Executive Policy Committee today communicating his decision to retire at the end of April.
Pursuant to requirements outlined in his employment agreement, Doug McNeil has provided two months written notice to the Mayor and Executive Policy Committee that his last day of employment with the City of Winnipeg will be April 26, 2019.
Winnipeg, MB – In anticipation of forecasted snow expected today and through the evening, a Declared Snow Route Parking Ban is being implemented to accommodate any required plowing operation overnight on main routes, bus routes and collector streets. The ban will go into effect at midnight, Thursday, February 14, 2019.
The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours, prohibiting parking on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m.
Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg, in partnership with Mother Earth Recycling, is launching a pilot program to recycle mattresses.
For a limited time, residents can drop off a combination of up to six mattresses and box springs at the Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot (1777 Brady Rd.) for free. The City is contributing $193,000 towards the pilot program, which runs until January 31, 2020, or until 8,000 mattresses are collected.

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:18 p.m. on February 12, 2019 Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a single family bungalow in the 0-100 block of Sumter Crescent. Once on scene, crews found heavy smoke. Using an interior, offensive attack, the fire was declared under control at 3:36 p.m.
There were no human occupants in the home at the time of the fire. WFPS crews located one dog and three cats in the residence. Attempts were made, but the dog and two of the cats were unable to be resuscitated.
Winnipeg, MB – Today the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) launched the S.A.F.E. Family (Smoke Alarm for Every Family) Program, which installs smoke alarms in owner-occupied households not already equipped with a working smoke alarm.
