Released: February 17, 2019 at 9:53 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:05 a.m. on February 17, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, multi-family house in the 100 block of Jarvis Avenue. Once on scene, crews found a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows. Initially an exterior, defensive attack was employed, but after knocking down some of the flames, crews were able to enter the structure, transitioning to an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:25 a.m.

Initial reports stated that there may be two occupants still in the home. Once on scene, bystanders stated they witnessed two individuals self-evacuating prior to the arrival of crews. After completing two complete searches of the house, it was confirmed that no one was in the home. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
