Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Simcoe Street

Released: April 10, 2020 at 1 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:54 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 300 block of Simcoe Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heave smoke and flames coming from the structure.

An offensive attack was launched but due to deteriorating conditions, crews were forced to exit the structure and transition to a defensive attack, while also working to protect neighbouring homes from exposure. Once flames were knocked down they were once again able to enter the house to extinguish hot spots and complete a full search. The fire was declared under control at 10:22 a.m.

Occupants of the two neighbouring homes were evacuated. Residents will be able to return to their homes once the crews complete their work on scene. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
