Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Garry Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:06 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2020 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a hotel in the 100 block of Garry Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Building occupants had extinguished the fire before crews arrived. Crews conducted a search of the building to ensure it was safe for re-entry.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Leila Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:59 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a commercial building in the 600 block of Leila Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, ensuring the fire did not spread to neighbouring businesses. The fire was declared under control at 11:32 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Young Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:23 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey, multi-family residence in the 400 block of Young Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:39 p.m.

All occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Sinclair Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:22 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic alarm for a fire in a housing complex in the 1000 block of Sinclair Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews found the automatic fire sprinkler system had activated and kept the fire from extending beyond the room of origin. Crews then worked to ventilate smoke from the building.

Insect Control Update #2

Winnipeg, MB – On Sunday, May 24, 2020, weather permitting, the City of Winnipeg’s Insect Control Branch will commence its tree pest caterpillar control program starting at 9:30 p.m. in Insect Management Areas IMA 5 (Glenelm) and IMA 2 (Kildonan Drive). Spraying is scheduled to occur Sunday to Thursday evenings during this projected 5-6 week program. Spraying will not occur if there is significant rainfall or winds are greater than 20 km/hr.

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:32 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey, single-family home in the 300 block of Arnold Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the exterior of the home. An attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 8:43 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two overnight fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:24 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a garage fire in the rear of the 200 block of Watt Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered the garage fully engulfed in flames, with the fire extending to adjacent utility poles. A fire attack was launched with crews declaring it under control at 2:41 a.m.

Occupants of a neighbouring home were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:10 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the first block of William Whiteway Bay. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 6:44 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two overnight structure fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:22 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic alarm in a City of Winnipeg-owned house located at 1637 Main Street. Built in 1874, Bleak House is a designated historic building currently being used as the home of a non-profit agency.

When crews arrived on scene to the alarm, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 1:56 a.m. Crews then worked to ventilate smoke from the structure.
