Winnipeg, MB – At 6:10 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the first block of William Whiteway Bay. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 6:44 p.m.

The sole occupant of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. The individual was assessed on scene by paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. Firefighters searched the home, locating a dog and bringing it to safety.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, due to a flammable liquid coming into contact with a heat source. No damage estimates are available at this time.
