Winnipeg, MB – At 2:58 p.m. on October 1, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire alarm in a six-storey high-rise apartment block on Boulton Bay. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on scene, due to the potential for a high number of occupants in the building.
When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered smoke on one of the upper floors of the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was quickly knocked down and smoke ventilated from the building.
Firefighters assisted some residents with evacuation. Some residents were able to safely shelter-in-place inside their suites. Paramedics transported one individual to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire was contained to the suite of origin and most residents were able to return to their units once crews completed their work on scene. No damage estimates are available are currently available.
