Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two overnight fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:02 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a commercial building in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West.

When crews arrived on scene, there was heavy smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 3:07 a.m. Crews searched the building and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Simcoe Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:16 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey vacant house in the 300 block of Simcoe Street.

When crews arrived on scene, there was light smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:35 p.m.

Crews searched the home and confirmed there were no occupants inside. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Magnus Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:29 p.m. on Thursday, December 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey apartment building in the 1600 block of Magnus Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered flames and smoke coming from the home. Crews searched the building and rescued one person. All other occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived.

Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 11:36 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a carbon monoxide incident

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:41 a.m. on Thursday, December 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a smell of gas in a four-storey apartment building in the 200 block of Fairhaven Road.

When crews arrived on scene, they used monitors inside the building and confirmed the presence of carbon monoxide, with readings between 70-90 parts per million (ppm) at various locations in the building.

Extended Snow Route Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB – The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban that was put into effect at 12 a.m., Tuesday, December 22 has now been lifted.

The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban is an extension of the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban, which is currently in effect daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. until March 1, 2021. We thank all residents for their cooperation.

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:14 a.m. on December 22, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 600 block of Boyd Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 1:24 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Extended Snow Route Parking Ban in effect starting tonight at midnight

Parking prohibited on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – In response to recent accumulations of snow and to facilitate snow clearing, an Extended Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours, prohibiting parking on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m.

City launches Winnipeg COVID-19 Economic Support Grant Program

Program offers one-time $1,500 grant to qualified businesses and organizations

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has launched the Winnipeg COVID-19 Economic Support Grant Program in order to assist Winnipeg small businesses and not-for-profit organizations that have been forced to prohibit access to their premises due to COVID-19 public health restrictions effective November 12, 2020 or thereafter.

The Winnipeg Wellness Fund Now Open for Applications

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the Winnipeg Wellness Fund application process has begun with the launch of an online application on the City’s website. The fund will support community initiatives to help reduce the physical, mental, and emotional distress caused by the pandemic.

“COVID-19 restrictions have sadly changed how we are able to spend time with our family and friends and take part in community events. We can all use a bit more happiness this winter,” said Councillor John Orlikow, Deputy Mayor.
