Section of southbound Salter Street to temporarily close beginning April 26

Winnipeg, MB – Southbound Salter Street between Selkirk Avenue and Cathedral Avenue will be completely closed starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 26 until the end of September, for a road renewal project. Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane during this time.

Motorists must use alternate routes while this road closure is in place; pedestrian access will be maintained.

City-wide spring cleanup operations set to begin on Sunday, April 25

Winnipeg, MB – On Sunday, April 25 at 10 p.m., crews will begin the annual city-wide spring cleanup. Over the next five to six weeks, Winnipeg’s entire street network, including bridges and sidewalks will be cleaned, as well as designated active transportation pathways, boulevards, and medians. Crews will also clean up litter and debris in City parks. The major operation involves over 300 pieces of equipment, and approximately 500 workers.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a wildland fire in St. Norbert

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:04 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a wildland fire in the grassy space near Pembina Highway and the LaSalle River in St. Norbert. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a fully-involved grass fire. Initial reports estimated the fire was six football fields in size. With wind speeds on scene measured at 31 km/h, gusting to 42 km/h, the fire was at serious risk of further spread.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a grass fire near Beaverhill Blvd

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:34 p.m. on April 22, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a grass fire near Beaverhill Boulevard and Willowlake Crescent. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a fire in a grassy area around the Seine River.

Crews used specialized wildland-urban interface equipment, including the WFPS Bison, to attack the fire. The WFPS drone was deployed to provide situational awareness, as grass fires tend to spread over larger areas quickly.

City starts mosquito larviciding program

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg will begin this year’s insect control season on Monday, April 26 focusing on a targeted, environmentally friendly mosquito larviciding program which is the most effective approach to control mosquitoes. Larviciding targets mosquito larvae in the aquatic stage before they emerge as adults.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Campbell Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:12 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a house fire in a single-family bungalow in the 500 block of Campbell Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:17 p.m.

There were no people in the home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are currently available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two overnight fires

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two overnight fires.

Hargrave Street

At 10:19 p.m. on April 19, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire at a high-rise building in the 0-100 block of Hargrave Street.

When crews arrived, there were smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 11:51 p.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Carriage Road

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:24 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey apartment building in the 100 block of Carriage Road.

When crews arrived on scene, there was smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:54 p.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Mathers Bay East

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:53 a.m. on Sunday, April 18, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey home in the 1300 block of Mathers Bay East.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:14 a.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Pritchard Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:58 a.m. on April 14, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke in the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 7:15 a.m.

All occupants of the residence self-evacuated before crews arrived. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are currently available.
