Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two fires on Agnes Street

Winnipeg, MB – On Saturday, May 1, 2021, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to two overnight fires on Agnes Street.

At 4:32 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey home in the 600 block of Agnes Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the home.
Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:57 a.m. Crews used a thermal imaging camera to ensure all hot spots were fully extinguished.

Section of westbound Munroe Avenue to close beginning on Monday until September 17

Winnipeg, MB – Westbound Munroe Avenue, between Henderson Highway and Watt Street, will be closed for a road reconstruction project starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 3, and lasting until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 17. One lane of eastbound traffic and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time and use alternate routes to reach their destinations.

Council approves 13 new streets, expanded hours
Enhanced Summer Bike Program routes to open throughout early May

Winnipeg, MB – The much-anticipated Enhanced Summer Bike Program (formerly Open Streets) is coming soon to a neighbourhood near almost all Winnipeggers.

City Council yesterday voted in favour of implementing 13 additional routes and expanding operating hours for both the new streets and the City’s four existing Sunday/holiday bike routes.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Church Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:59 a.m. on April 30, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 400 block of Church Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the house and an offensive attack was launched. Firefighters used a Flameguard X-Tinguish Fire Suppression Tool (FST), an aerosol device that reduces temperatures, which allows safer access for firefighters. The fire under control at 11:22 a.m.

Council approves on-demand accessible vehicles for hire pilot

New service to provide universal access point for customers booking accessible on-demand transportation

Winnipeg, MB – Yesterday, Council approved a new three-year pilot to improve accessible vehicle for hire access for Winnipeggers through a new on-demand service known as Winnipeg Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, or Winnipeg WAV.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Bannerman Avenue and Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two fires this morning.

Bannerman Avenue fire

At 6:28 a.m. on April 29, 2021, WFPS responded to a fire in a two-storey commercial and residential mixed-use building in the 200 block of Bannerman Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene the encountered smoke coming from the building.
An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 6:55 a.m.

Crews assisted occupants with evacuation. No injuries were reported.

Temporary closure of southbound travel on the Arlington Bridge tomorrow

Winnipeg, MB – The southbound direction of travel on the Arlington Bridge from Dufferin Avenue to Logan Avenue will be temporarily closed for bridge maintenance this Wednesday, April 28 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time and use alternate routes, such as the McPhillips Street Underpass or Slaw Rebchuk Bridge, to reach their destinations.
