As part of the next phase of public engagement on the Archives Strategy, Winnipeg residents are invited to share their thoughts on service improvements and future facility options for City Archives by taking the survey, or attending one of the virtual events in June:

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Young Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:41 a.m. on May 24, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 400 block of Young Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found heavy smoke coming from the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 3:57 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Sargent Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:26 a.m. on May 23, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment block in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke in the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:40 a.m.

Occupants of the building safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Damage was contained to a single apartment suite. The majority of occupants were able to return to their suites once crews completed their work on scene.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on William Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:04 p.m. on May 22, 2021, a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crew spotted a fire in a vacant, three-storey, multi-family house while returning to their station from a call. Additional crews were dispatched to the location in the 500 block of William Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the house and launched an offensive fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 7:40 p.m. The house suffered extensive smoke, fire, and water damage.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Victor Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:00 p.m. on May 21, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 500 block of Victor Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the house and launched an offensive fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 10:30 p.m. The house suffered extensive smoke, fire, and water damage.

There were no occupants in the structure at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Temporary changes coming to City of Winnipeg golf courses, parks, open spaces, and playgrounds

Winnipeg, MB – In consideration of the changes to the Province of Manitoba’s public health orders announced on May 20, the City of Winnipeg will be instituting temporary changes at our golf courses, parks, open spaces, and playgrounds.

Effective Saturday, May 22 at 12:01 a.m. until the changes to the province’s public health orders expire on Wednesday, May 26 at 12:01 a.m., groups will be limited to members of the same household only.

Insect Control Update #2

Tree pest caterpillar control program commences

Winnipeg, MB – On Sunday, May 23, 2021, weather permitting, the City will commence its tree pest caterpillar control program starting at 9:30 p.m. in Insect Management Areas 6 (East Elmwood, Kildonan Crossing, Munroe East, Talbot Grey, Tyne Tees), 7 (Radisson, Victoria West), and 8 (Kern Park, Kildare Redonda).
