Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Balmoral Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:56 p.m. on June 21, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant three-storey apartment complex in the 500 block of Balmoral Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered flames and smoke coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 7:24 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Panet Road and William Newton Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires this evening.

Panet Road Fire

At 7:48 p.m. on June 20, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey commercial structure in the 400 block of Panet Road.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the business and launched an offensive attack. The WFPS drone was used to provide aerial views and detect hot spots. The fire was declared under control at 8:15 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Paulley Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:44 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single family home on Paulley Drive.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke coming from the house. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 3:28 p.m.

All occupants of the structure self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One individual was assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Stella Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:51 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a duplex in the 600 block of Stella Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, heavy flames, and smoke were coming from the structure. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:21 a.m. The fire was contained to one suite.

All occupants of the structure safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported. Occupants of the unaffected suite were able to return to their home.

City begins Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) treatment

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg will begin its Emerald Ash Borer treatment program on Monday, June 21, 2021, weather permitting.

The program will target Insect Management Areas:

Stretch of Corydon Avenue to temporarily close starting June 20

Winnipeg, MB – Eastbound Corydon Avenue, between Oxford Street and Rockwood Street, will be completely closed for paving starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 20, for approximately one week. The westbound median lane will also be closed during this time.

Motorists must use alternate routes while this road closure is in place; pedestrian access will be maintained.

City of Winnipeg outdoor pools and wading pools set to open in the coming weeks

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is set to open outdoor pools beginning June 25, 2021, and wading pools beginning July 1, 2021 in accordance with current provincial public health orders. To support the resumption of services, we are recalling approximately 360 Community Services Department staff members who were temporarily redeployed or laid off. As a result, we will be phasing out the Community Service Ambassador (CSA) program by June 26, 2021.

City Libraries kick-off TD Summer Reading Club

Winnipeg, MB – The annual TD Summer Reading Club, Canada’s biggest bilingual summer reading program, begins today at the Winnipeg Public Library. Children up to age 12 can participate with a free bilingual reading kit available at all libraries. Please phone ahead to arrange contactless pick-up.
