Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires this evening.
Panet Road Fire
At 7:48 p.m. on June 20, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey commercial structure in the 400 block of Panet Road.
When crews arrived on scene they encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the business and launched an offensive attack. The WFPS drone was used to provide aerial views and detect hot spots. The fire was declared under control at 8:15 p.m.
Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available.
William Newton Avenue Fire
At 9:08 p.m. on June 20, 2021, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a multi-family residence in the 400 block of William Newton Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 9:26 p.m.
All occupants of the residence safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. Six individuals were assessed by on-scene paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported. Crews located a pet lizard in the residence and reunited it with its owner.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
