Upcoming temporary closures on Lagimodiere Boulevard and Day Street

Winnipeg, MB – Two major streets will temporarily close in the coming days to accommodate road construction work.

Lagimodiere Boulevard

The off-ramp from northbound Lagimodiere Boulevard onto westbound Concordia Avenue will be temporarily closed on Sunday, July 11 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. for road construction. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Stewart Street and Blake Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires this morning.

Stewart Street Fire

At 10:30 a.m. on July 8, 2021, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey duplex in the 800 block of Stewart Street.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 10:56 a.m.

All occupants of the duplex safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Neighbourhood Greenway Reduced Speed Pilot Program Begins

Four existing greenways moving to 30 km/h

Winnipeg, MB – A program to evaluate the impact of reduced speeds and enhanced traffic calming measures on neighbourhood greenways will begin next week.

Between July 12 and 23, crews will install speed limit signage, speed humps, and additional intersection controls along the following routes:

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Manitoba Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:58 a.m. on July 8, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a garage fire in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered a garage engulfed in flames, with fire extending to the duplex on the property and a neighbouring carport. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 4:57 a.m.

All occupants of the duplex safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to wildland fire near Saskatchewan Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:26 p.m. on July 7, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a large grass and brush fire near the 3000 block of Saskatchewan Avenue. This fire was in close proximity to the area of Monday and Tuesday’s wildland fires.

Once again, WFPS crews used specialized wildland-urban interface equipment, including the WFPS Bison, to attack the fires and protect the surrounding areas.

The fire has been declared under control. No injuries were reported.

Select City of Winnipeg fitness centres and indoor pools to reopen

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is reopening select fitness centres and indoor pools at reduced capacity, and resuming limited indoor programming at these facilities on Monday, July 12, 2021, in accordance with provincial public health guidelines.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to wildland fire near Centreport Canada Way

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:17 p.m. on July 5, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a significant grass and brush fire near the intersection of Centreport Canada Way and the Sturgeon Access Road. The fire was estimated to be the size of one football field and was spreading quickly, with wind speeds gusting to over 40km/h.

Temporary closure of northbound Watt Street between Trent Avenue and Golspie Street to begin July 9

Winnipeg, MB – The northbound direction of Watt Street will be closed for road construction between Trent Avenue and Golspie Street from 7 a.m. on Friday, July 9, until 7 p.m. on Friday, August 6. Pedestrian access on the east sidewalk will be maintained.

Motorists must use alternate routes while this road closure is in place.
