As our facilities age, they require maintenance work to ensure they can be enjoyed by future generations. Like many of our aquatic facilities, Seven Oaks Pool has been well-loved for many decades. That’s why we closed the main tank of the pool in December 2025 for major repairs.
Crews are hard at work repairing the concrete that has eroded over the years and replacing the old tiles. They are also doing waterproofing work to protect against future seepage.
“We know how much the community loves our facilities, and we want to make sure they’re here for many years to come,” said Sandra Sawatzky, Manager of the Community Services Department’s Asset Management Office.
The repairs we are doing today will help to prevent longer-term closures in the future.
We expect this work to take up to fourteen months to complete. We look forward to welcoming swimmers back in early 2027.
Short-term closure of the kiddie pool and splash pad
During the main tank closure, we planned to keep the kiddie pool and indoor splash pad open as much as possible. However, we encountered an unexpected heating issue, and the area was too cold to be enjoyable. We learned that the heat exchanger unit was broken and could not be repaired. Because of this, we need to keep the kiddie pool and splash pad closed for several weeks while we wait for the new unit to arrive.
“While the issues with the heat exchanger were unexpected, we’re using this as an opportunity to complete tile repairs that were also needed,” said Sawatzky.
Completing those repairs now means we can avoid another closure and reduce disruption to our visitors.
We expect to re-open the kiddie pool and indoor splash pad in mid-June 2026. We will continue to post updates on our website.
Our continued investment in our pools and recreation facilities
We are investing approximately $3.5 million in these repairs at Seven Oaks Pool. This is all part of our multi-year plan to upgrade our facilities for future generations.
This work complements the major expansion work underway at St. James Civic Centre and the newly renovated Bonivital Pool. We are also investing nearly $19 million over five years to refresh our outdoor aquatic facilities.
We understand that facility closures are disruptive and thank you for your patience. We do our best to coordinate closures of pools across the city to ensure the fewest number are closed at any given time.
Investing in our aging pools means they will be here for many more years to come.
