Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is removing paystations in paid on-street areas and City-operated surface lots, beginning July 2.
All paystations will be removed by August 31. Paystations in private lots are not impacted by the change. Paystations will also remain in the Millennium Library parkade.
Canada’s mobile service providers are phasing out 3G networks across the country, which will make the current paystations inoperable. The paystations have also reached the end of their useful life, use outdated technology, and attract theft and vandalism. The cost to replace the paystations is $3.6 million. By not replacing them, the City will avoid these costs, in addition to saving approximately $1 million annually in operating costs.
You can continue to pay for on-street parking using PayByPhone, available as a mobile app (iOS and Android), online, and by phone (1-888-680-7275). PayByPhone accepts debit and credit card payments.
With PayByPhone, you can pay for and add parking time from anywhere, including in your vehicle. Users are encouraged to download the app now to prepare for the change.
Currently over 80 percent of all paid parking transactions are made through PayByPhone, and 90 percent of all transactions are made with a credit card. Users who prefer cash payment can still purchase Prepaid Parking Booklets (formerly the Scratch N’ Park Meter Passes) at The Parking Store (495 Portage Ave.). They can also be paid for with debit or credit cards.
The booklets will also be available for purchase at one of our 311 counters at the Susan A. Thompson Building, 510 Main St. (main floor), or at Accès-Access Saint-Boniface, 170 Goulet St., by July 2.
Additional PayByPhone signage will be installed as paystations are removed.
