Winnipeg, MB – Residents now have a new way to access information on City services and submit service requests.
The City of Winnipeg is piloting a new AI chatbot on its website. Chatbot provides a conversational source of knowledge of the information on the City’s website. It can communicate with residents in 17 languages and is available 24/7 during the pilot.
“Last year I challenged the public service to develop new tools to improve how we serve Winnipeggers, and they are delivering,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “This AI chatbot makes it easier to get answers, find services, and connect with the City, anytime and in multiple languages. It’s another step toward a more accessible and responsive city government.”
“I am excited for the possibilities that new AI technology holds to make Winnipeg a more accessible and accommodating place to live for everyone,” said Councillor Matt Allard, Technology and Innovation Liaison.
Visitors to winnipeg.ca can start a conversation by clicking on the Chatbot icon at the bottom right corner of any page of the website. Chatbot can help users to:
- Quickly find relevant pages on winnipeg.ca for information requests
- Find the right online forms to submit service requests
At the end of each chat, users are encouraged to provide feedback on whether the answer was helpful. This feedback will be used to evaluate the pilot and determine its future.
In addition to Chatbot, residents can get information and submit service requests in-person, through the phone, and online.
Chatbot is powered by Google’s Gemini AI and is one of six innovative pilot projects the City is implementing to improve customer service through the use of artificial intelligence.
