Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is committed to ensuring inclusive access and participation within its facilities, services, and programs.
Today, the City launched a new webpage to publish notices about temporarily unavailable accessibility features at City facilities. This will help Winnipeggers plan their visits to our facilities by providing information in a single, searchable spot on our website.
“Winnipeggers deserve to have the information they need to access City facilities with confidence and ease,” said Mayor Scott Gillingham. “This new webpage is an important step in ensuring residents can plan their visits and know about any temporary accessibility disruptions in advance. It’s another way we’re working to make Winnipeg a more inclusive and accessible city for everyone.”
The page displays disruptions for publicly accessible City buildings, pools, libraries, and recreation facilities. It also shows disruptions to bus stops and sidewalks.
Residents can filter by an address or intersection, category, facility name or type, or area so they can easily find the information they’re looking for. Information is displayed on a map and in a list. Each notice on the webpage includes the reason for the disruption, how long it’s expected, and if there are alternative options available at other locations.
“This is about more than visibility—it’s about action,” said Sherri Rollins, chairperson of the Human Rights Committee of Council. “By highlighting barriers and improving how we share this information with the public, we’re not just addressing immediate challenges—we’re building a foundation for sustainable change and inclusivity in Winnipeg.”
The webpage is updated by staff working at the facilities, ensuring up-to-date information is available to the public.
The webpage is part of our Accessibility Plan and was developed with funding support from the 2022 Manitoba Accessibility Fund and stakeholder design input.
Information about accessibility features at City facilities will continue to be added as needed.
