Released: June 21, 2023 at 4:34 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires this afternoon.

Ross Avenue West fire
At 1:40 p.m., WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 1300 block of Ross Avenue West.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews immediately launched a fire attack while also working to protect the neighbouring homes. Despite this, the fire spread to one of the neighbouring homes and caused exterior damage to the other. The fire was declared under control at 2:56 p.m.

All occupants of the home where the fire originated self-evacuated. Firefighters evacuated occupants from the two neighbouring houses. One person was assessed by paramedics on-scene, but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The City’s Emergency Social Services team assisted displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. While damage estimates are not available, the home where the fire started is considered a complete loss. One neighbouring house suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage. The other suffered exterior damage.
