Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two early morning structure fires.
Dufferin Avenue fire
At 6:51 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-and-a-half storey house in the 400 block of Dufferin Avenue.
When crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the house. Due to the smoke conditions they started fighting the fire from the outside of the structure. Once conditions improved, firefighters entered the building and continued fighting the fire. The fire was declared under control at 7:18 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house had damage from a previous fire. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
Selkirk Avenue fire
At 4:36 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, one-and-a-half storey house in the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the house. They fought the fire from inside the house, declaring it under control at 5:11 a.m.
A search of the house was completed and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The house had damage from a previous fire. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
