Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on College Avenue

Released: May 19, 2023 at 9:20 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:44 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 400 block of College Avenue.

When crews arrived to the scene they found a well-involved fire, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Due to the dangerous fire conditions, they were unable to enter the building. They fought the fire from outside the house, while also protecting a neighbouring property. The fire was declared under control at 11:47 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The house was damaged from previous fires in May 2021, December 2021 and May 2022. As the structural integrity of the house is compromised, WFPS has arranged emergency demolition of the building.
