Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a structure fire on Sherbrook Street

Winnipeg, MB At 10:49 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey home in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street.

At the scene, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the home. Everyone safely self-evacuated before crews arrived.

Firefighters temporarily evacuated eight people from neighbouring homes until it was safe to return. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) helped two people find temporary alternate living arrangements until they can return to their home.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside until it was safe to enter. Crews declared the fire under control at 12:41 a.m. One firefighter sustained a minor injury. Paramedics treated the firefighter on scene and no transportation to hospital was required.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
