Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Ross Avenue

Released: April 17, 2023 at 7:45 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:40 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, boarded house in the 500 block of Ross Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from outside because it was unsafe to enter. Crews used an aerial ladder to apply water from above. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters evacuated two neighbouring homes as a precaution. The structural integrity of the house is compromised, so crews are arranging demolition of the building. This will also help firefighters extinguish any small pockets of fire that remain in the structure. The house is a complete loss.

WFPS has responded to this address for four fires since April 8, 2023.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
