Winnipeg, MB – Last night, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.
Ross Avenue
At 10:16 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey home in the 400 block of Ross Avenue.
At the scene, crews saw heavy flames coming from the home. Firefighters initially attacked the fire from inside the structure, but deteriorating conditions forced them to switch tactics to attack from the outside. The fire was declared under control at 5:07 a.m.
All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team responded to the scene to help seven people find temporary accommodations. Firefighters located two cats inside the building and reunited them with their owners.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home sustained significant damages from smoke, fire, and water.
North Drive
At 2:15 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a bungalow in the 900 block of North Drive.
At the scene, crews saw flames coming from the home. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside until it was safe to enter the building. Crews declared the fire under control at 3:10 a.m.
Firefighters searched the home and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home sustained damage from smoke, fire, and water.
