Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two recent structure fires.
Juno Street fire
At 3:56 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey house in the 100 block of Juno Street.
When crews arrived on scene, they found a small fire which was put out using a chemical fire extinguisher.
One individual at the scene was assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Ottawa Avenue fire
At 7:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 400 block of Ottawa Avenue.
Upon their arrival to the scene, crews found smoke coming from the house. They fought the fire from inside the house, declaring it under control at 7:55 p.m.
No one was home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries reported. Crews located one cat in the house and brought it to safety.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by a malfunctioning bathroom exhaust fan. No damage estimates are available at this time.
