Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) recently responded to three fires.
Bryn Mawr Road fire
At 2:52 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow on Bryn Mawr Road.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke coming from the house. They entered the building to fight the fire. The fire was declared under control at 3:59 a.m.
No persons were in the house at the time of the fire. There were no injuries reported.
Firefighters located two dogs in the house, but both succumbed to fire-related injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
Sherbrook Street fire
At 11:19 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023, the WFPS responded to reports of a garage fire in the 500 block of Sherbrook Street. Callers to 9-1-1 indicated the fire was threatening an adjacent house. Both the house and garage were vacant
When crews arrived at the scene, they found the garage fully-engulfed in flames. A fire attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 12:01 a.m., with no extension to the neighbouring house.
Crews completed a search of the garage and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
Young Street fire
At 10:06 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in vacant two-storey house in the 600 block of Young Street.
Upon arrival on scene, crews saw flames and heavy smoke coming from the house. They fought the fire from inside the structure, declaring it under control at 10:24 p.m.
Crews completed a search of the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported. Firefighters located one cat and brought it to safety. The City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency attended the scene to care for the animal.
