Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Furby Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:12 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey converted residential dwelling in the 200 block of Furby Street.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the building. They entered and fought the fire from inside, declaring the fire under control at 6:37 p.m.

Occupants of the building self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. Three individuals were assessed by on-scene paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was transported to hospital as a precaution. Crews located and brought one cat to safety.

Damage estimates are not available at this time. The structure suffered fire, smoke and significant water damage.

The City’s Emergency Social Services team assisted approximately 20 displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
