Winnipeg, MB – At 5:56 a.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a duplex in the 1000 block of Burrows Avenue.
At the scene, crews found a fire in the furnace room. Firefighters extinguished the fire. Everyone got out of the home safely before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.
No damage estimates are available. The cause of the fire is accidental and related to a gas furnace.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team helped residents find temporary housing.
To avoid a fire, have your furnace serviced regularly by a qualified technician. Ensure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on all levels of your home, including near sleeping areas. Make a home escape plan and practice it often.
