Winnipeg, MB – At 10:56 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from house. Due to fire conditions and damage from a previous fire, crews were unable to safely enter the structure. They attacked the fire from the exterior of the house using an aerial ladder to apply water to the fire.
The house is considered a complete loss. As the structural integrity of the building is compromised, arrangements are being made for the building to be demolished. WFPS will remain on scene to extinguish hotspots until demolition is complete. Pritchard Avenue will remain closed until work at the scene is complete.
Occupants from one neighbouring house are temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
