Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Selkirk Avenue

Released: December 30, 2022 at 7:50 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB At 4:09 a.m. on December 30, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 800 block of Selkirk Avenue.

At the scene, crews found a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews launched a defensive fire attack as it was not safe for them to enter the structure. They are using an aerial ladder truck to apply water on the fire, while also protecting neighbouring homes from fire spread.

Both neighbouring homes have been evacuated. At this time, no injuries have been reported.

Crews are expected to be on scene for an extended period of time. Selkirk Avenue between Arlington Street and Sinclair Street is closed. Residents are asked to avoid this area.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation. While no damage estimates are available at this time, the house is expected to be a complete loss.
