Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Grove Street and Woodydell Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires this afternoon.

Grove Street fire

At 2:34 p.m. on December 28, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey house in the 0 to 100 block of Grove Street.

At the scene, crews found light smoke coming from the house and attacked the fire from inside the house. The fire was under control at 3:03 p.m.

The sole occupant of the house self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. The individual was assessed by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Woodydell Avenue fire

At 3:39 p.m. on December 28, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 100 block of Woodydell Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they found thick, black smoke coming from the house and attacked the fire from inside the house. The fire was under control at 4:09 p.m.

The sole occupant of the house self-evacuated with their dog prior to the arrival of crews. The individual was assessed by paramedics at the scene but did not require transport to hospital. No additional injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time but the house sustained significant smoke damage throughout.
