Commercial Robbery – Arrest: C22-284269

On December 7, 2022, at approximately 1:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a commercial robbery in progress at a convenience store in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.

A male armed with a knife entered the store and threatened two employees. One of the employees managed to escape and contacted police, while the other employee was held captive at knifepoint with the door barricaded shut.

Officers from the North District arrived and attempted to de-escalate the suspect from outside the store. They subsequently distracted him, and the employee escaped the store. When police entered the store, the suspect remained armed, refusing to drop the weapon. A conducted energy weapon, “Taser,” was deployed, and he was taken into custody.

The victims were not physically injured. Police transported the accused to hospital for precautionary measures.

A 26-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges for the following offences:

- Robbery

- Possession of a Weapon x 2

- Forcible Confinement x 2

- Resist Peace Officer

He remains in police custody.
