Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire in a vacant house on Matheson Avenue East

Released: November 5, 2022 at 1 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:58 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 100 block of Matheson Avenue East.

At the scene, firefighters saw smoke coming from the house. Crews attacked the fire from the inside.

Firefighters used a Flameguard X-Tinguish Fire Suppression Tool (FST), an aerosol device that reduces temperatures. The FST generates a mist that expands to flood the space, suppressing flames within seconds, creating a safer environment for firefighters.

The fire was under control at 9:57 p.m. Firefighters searched the house to ensure no one was inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home sustained significant damage.
