Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Lily Street

Released: October 31, 2022 at 6:49 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:42 a.m. on October 31, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey duplex in the 0 to 100 block of Lily Street.

When crews arrived at the location, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Crews are fighting the fire from the exterior of the building, as conditions are too unsafe to have crews enter it. An aerial ladder is being used to apply water to the fire.

Crews remain at the scene at this time. It is expected they will be there throughout the morning.

Road closures are in effect in the area. The Disraeli Freeway is closed to northbound traffic. Southbound Disraeli remains open, but the median lane is blocked. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes, as extremely smoky conditions are present.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

No damage estimates are available at this time.
