Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service provides update on Lily Street fire

Released: October 31, 2022 at 4:34 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:42 a.m. on October 31, 2022, the WFPS responded to a fire in a vacant, two-storey duplex in the 0 to 100 block of Lily Street.

Crews worked throughout the morning to extinguish the fire with aerial ladders. As the building is at risk of collapse, it will be demolished by heavy machinery. While the demolition is taking place, crews will apply water to hot spots.

Road closures remain in effect in the area. The northbound Disraeli Freeway remains closed. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and find alternate routes for the afternoon rush.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Damage estimates are not available at this time, but the building is considered a complete loss.
