Released: September 25, 2022 at 5:48 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:03 a.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a bungalow in the 200 block of Union Avenue West.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found a well-involved fire that had spread to a neighbouring property. Crews initially launched a defensive attack but once some of the flames were knocked down, they were able to transition to an offensive fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:06 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the house where the fire originated and no occupants were found. Crews evacuated two neighbouring homes. They also rescued several pets, including a gerbil and a lizard, from one of the homes, reuniting the animals with their owners. No injuries were reported.

The City’s Emergency Social Services were called to assist displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
