Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Public Library is pleased to announce that Frances Koncan is its new Writer-in-Residence for 2022-2023, and will be available for consultations beginning October 3, 2022.

Koncan is an innovative, award-winning Anishinaabe playwright and director whose works have been produced on stages across the country, including the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (RMTC). She has helped emerging writers and playwrights develop their voices as Writer-in-Residence at the University of Manitoba and as a mentor with RMTC, and her play zahgidiwin/love was just published in the Voices of a Generation anthology. She has also worked as a freelance journalist and arts consultant.

“As a mentor and teacher, I am led by the needs and goals of those I work with, developing and reshaping methodologies to individual needs,” said Koncan.

The Writer-in-Residence provides free consultation by email, phone, and online with emerging and established Manitoba writers of all genres. Manuscripts for review can be submitted by email or by mail. Visit Winnipeg Public Library – Writer-in-Residence for complete submission guidelines.

Koncan’s term as Writer-in-Residence at the Winnipeg Public Library runs until April 28, 2023.
