Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Sargent Avenue and Magnus Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to multiple fires from late Monday night to early Tuesday afternoon.

Sargent Avenue Fire

At 10:53 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue.

Once on-scene crews found light grey smoke coming from a suite in the building. Crews launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 11:17 p.m.

Building occupants self-evacuated or sheltered in place if crews determined it was safe to do so. Two patients were assessed on-scene by paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Most residents were allowed to return to their suites once crews completed overhaul operations and ventilated the building. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to assist displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.

Fire damage was contained to the suite of origin, with water damage to a suite below and smoke damage to some other areas of the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Magnus Avenue Fire

At 11:46 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, WFPS responded to multiple reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 1600 block of Magnus Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they launched an offensive attack, locating the fire in a room on a floor of the building. The fire was declared under control at 12:08 p.m..

Occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. All residents were able to return to their suites once crews ventilated the structure. No injuries were reported.

Fire damage was contained to the room of origin. No damage estimates are available and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
