Winnipeg, MB – At 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey, multi-family residence in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene, they encountered smoke coming from the structure. All occupants of the building had safely self-evacuated. An offensive fire attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 9:38 p.m. The WFPS cleared the scene and a fire watch was established, with crews scheduled to patrol the site throughout the night to check for smoldering debris and hotspots.
At 11:52 p.m. crews conducting the fire watch arrived at the site and found that a previously undetected hotspot had reignited the fire, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.
Additional units were dispatched to the scene. Crews initially launched a defensive attack, but were able to transition to an offensive attack once it was safe to do so. The fire was declared under control at 2:53 a.m. this morning.
There were no occupants in the building when the fire re-ignited. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services had assisted displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations following the initial fire event. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the initial fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
