Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg officially broke ground on planned upgrades and refurbishment of the existing tennis courts at Jill Officer Park located at 1410 Rothesay St., adjacent to River East Collegiate.
The original four tennis courts will be reconfigured into two tennis courts and four pickleball courts. The project also includes a new asphalt surface, new pickleball stanchions and nets, benches, waste receptacles, fencing, parking lot repairs, and landscaping.
“I am pleased to officially break ground on this exciting project that will provide more opportunities for fun and fitness to local and neighbouring communities,” said Sherri Rollins, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks. “The new pickleball courts will be a welcomed enhancement to the existing facility for all to enjoy.”
“I am proud to have secured funding for new and upgraded amenities at Jill Officer Park in recent years,” said Jeff Browaty, Councillor for North Kildonan. “The new pickleball courts and upgraded tennis courts are an important addition to this well-used community hub that includes a splash pad, play structure, River East Arena, Peguis Trail Health & Fitness Centre, and a paved running oval that is also currently being upgraded.”
The total cost of the project is approximately $230,000 from the 2022 Community & Neighborhood Parks Capital Fund. Construction is anticipated to be completed this year.
