Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two significant fires this evening.
Poplarwood Avenue fire
At 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a garage fire in the 100 block of Poplarwood Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene they found a detached two-car garage engulfed in smoke and flames. An offensive attack was launched while crews also worked to protect the adjacent home.
Residents from the house were evacuated by crews as a precaution. Firefighters also located the family’s pets and brought them to safety. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available but the garage is expected to be a complete loss. The adjacent house suffered minor heat damage.
Balgona Road Fire
At 5:40 p.m. on June 8, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a vehicle fire on Balgona Road.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found the vehicle engulfed in flames and fire spreading into the grass. Specialized wildland fire apparatus, including the WFPS Bison, were deployed to the scene. A water tanker was also dispatched as the fire was outside the City of Winnipeg water district. The fire was declared under control at 6:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
