Winnipeg, MB – At 12:12 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, vacant house in the 450 block of Stella Avenue.
Once on-scene, crews observed a well-involved fire coming from the structure with heavy smoke and flames. Wind gusts of over 60 km/h created challenging conditions for crews, though no exposure risks were present. Crews employed a defensive fire attack strategy, using heavy water streams and an aerial ladder. The fire was declared under control at 1:08 a.m. A fire watch was established to monitor conditions and prevent rekindling.
A search was conducted but no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
As a precaution, crews evacuated one occupant from a neighbouring house, and checked on the roof of an additional nearby house.
While no damage estimates are available, the house suffered major structural damage, including the collapse of the roof, chimney, and second floor. This is in addition to damages from two previous fires.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
