Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Stella Avenue and Fort Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires on Sunday, August 22, 2021.

Stella Avenue Fire

At 7:01 p.m., the WFPS responded to a Winnipeg Police Service report of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 400 block of Stella Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, they found light smoke coming from the building. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:23 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the building and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Fort Street Fire

At 11:32 p.m., the WFPS responded to a monitored alarm system in a multi-storey commercial/residential building in the 300 block of Fort Street.

A small fire was very quickly brought under control, aided by the building’s sprinkler system.

All occupants of the building safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The building suffered smoke and water damage, displacing over 30 residents. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was dispatched to the scene to assist those residents in finding alternate accommodations until their building is safe for re-occupancy.

The cause of the incident is under investigation. No damage estimate is available at this time.
