Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Furby Street

Released: August 21, 2021 at 11:24 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:49 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-and-a-half-storey house in the 600 block of Furby Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered fire and smoke coming from the structure. Due to high heat and smoke conditions, crews were unable to enter the house so they launched a defensive attack using aerial ladders and water streams. The fire was declared under control at 7:45 a.m.

Occupants of neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are currently available but the building is considered to be a complete loss.
