City of Winnipeg’s response to Critical (Red) status

Released: October 30, 2020 at 2:36 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – As part of our commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our residents and employees, and in consideration of Winnipeg being elevated to Critical (Red) in the Province of Manitoba’s Pandemic Response System, the City of Winnipeg is suspending all of its recreation and leisure programs and services, including Leisure Guide programming, and closing all City-owned and operated recreation facilities, gyms, indoor pools, arenas, and libraries effective Saturday, October 31 until further notice. More information on our facilities is available online at winnipeg.ca/cms.

Although community centre facilities and assets are owned by the City, they are their own legal entities, each governed by volunteer board of directors. Each community centre board is responsible for the management and operations of their centre, and are ultimately responsible for the decision to close their community centre.

In addition, the Council Building will also be closed to members of the public effective October 31, and City Hall wedding ceremonies are being suspended until further notice.

Previously, the City announced the suspension of in-home, non-emergency inspections. These measures are still in effect, until further notice.
