Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Barber Street and William Newton Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:27 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in two-storey apartment building in the 100 block of Barber Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:44 a.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported. Damages were mostly contained to the suite where the fire originated and most occupants were able to return to their suites once crews completed their work.

No damage estimates are available. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

At 9:57 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, the WFPS responded to reports of a house fire in a one and a half storey home in the 300 block of William Newton Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:13 p.m.

Crews searched the building and confirmed there were no occupants inside. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

At 1:42 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, the WFPS responded to reports of a shed on fire on the same property.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the shed. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 1:53 a.m. Due to the proximity of the shed to the home crews worked to ensure the fire did not spread to the house. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
