Winnipeg, MB – Today, Mayor Brian Bowman joined Councillor Matt Allard, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works, and Councillor Brian Mayes, St. Vital, to announce the conclusion of roadwork on Fermor Avenue, from St. Anne’s Road to Archibald Street.
The extensive, multi-faceted project was constructed in phases over the last two years to minimize traffic disruptions. The project includes the reconstruction of Fermor Avenue between St. Anne’s Road to Archibald Street and the rehabilitation of the bridge over the Seine River, among other improvements.
On Sunday, November 3, traffic on Fermor Avenue, between St. Anne’s Road and Archibald Street will begin operating on two through-lanes in the westbound direction of travel. The two through-lanes in the eastbound direction will fully reopen to traffic in November. Once completed, the new smoother roadway will provide improved safety and travel times for motorists.
“It is fantastic to see this stretch of construction complete so Fermor Avenue can get back to moving people efficiently along one of the City’s major regional arteries,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Winnipeggers have been patient in all areas of the City as we continue historic investments into fixing our roads and the results can be clearly seen here in St. Vital.”
“Since I was elected, I heard from many area residents that the condition of Fermor Avenue was a major concern to them,” said Councillor Matt Allard, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works. “I appreciate everyone’s patience as we undertook these much needed infrastructure improvements which will improve safety and travel times for those commuting in the area.”
“I am pleased that this project is finally coming to completion,” said Councillor Brian Mayes, St. Vital. “I wish to thank former Chair of Finance Marty Morantz for his support and leadership of this project. This project modernizes the road and much improves safety in the area.”
Funded from the Regional Streets Renewal Program and the Waterways Crossings and Grade Separations Program, the project cost $29.6 million.
