Winnipeg, MB – At 10:03 p.m. on July 11, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey condominium complex in the 100 block of Greenway Crescent. Upon arrival crews found a number of residents working to extinguish a fire involving the exterior facing wall of one of the suites. Firefighters took over, checked for hot spots and completed extinguishing the fire. The fire had not extended into the interior walls of the structure and damage was kept to a minimum.
Occupants of the impacted suite had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.
Preliminary observations suggest the cause of the fire was accidental due to the careless disposal of smoking materials. Residents are reminded to always ensure cigarette butts are fully extinguished before disposing them in the trash.
