Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service hosting Fire Prevention Week, October 9 to 15

Winnipeg, MB - Fire Prevention Week 2016 is being held across Canada from October 9 to 15. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is working with its partners to provide educational and entertaining activities that highlight the importance of fire prevention in our communities. The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is Don’t Wait - Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years!

Fire Prevention Week Kick-off
The Fire Prevention Week kick-off will feature a pumper truck and crew, fire safety trailers, and lots of great information for kids. The kick-off will be attended by students, teachers, school staff, and Deputy Mayor Mike Pagtakhan.
When: Tuesday, October 11 at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Shaughnessy Park School, 1641 Manitoba Avenue

Canadian Tire and Duracell Events
WFPS firefighters will team up with Canadian Tire and Duracell to promote smoke alarm awareness by making public appearances at Canadian Tire stores around the city. Firefighters will be available to chat with the public about how to test smoke alarms and where to install them in a residence.
When: Wednesday, October 12 to Friday, October 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Where: Canadian Tire locations in Winnipeg

Fire Drills for Schools
Schools across Winnipeg will take part in fire drills, promoting fire safety and providing tips on fire prevention to students. Fire paramedic stations will visit schools and talk to students about fire prevention and fire safety.
When: Wednesday, October 12 to Friday, October 14
Where: Schools across Winnipeg

Fire Paramedic Station Open House
All Winnipeg fire paramedic stations will invite the public in for an open house. Kids can enter a contest to become Fire Paramedic Chief for the Day.
When: Saturday, October 15 from noon to 4:00 p.m.
Where: all WFPS fire paramedic stations
