Winnipeg, MB – At 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to an automatic alarm at a high-rise apartment building in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and crew members on-scene due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a high-rise structure.

Crews encountered smoke coming from a suite on the third floor and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared fire under control at 2:28 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:38 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey commercial building on the northeast corner of Portage Avenue and Langside Street (Kirkwood Block).

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires this morning and one more this afternoon.

Extreme cold weather created challenging conditions for firefighting, with water, trucks, personal protective equipment, and tools freezing up quickly. The areas around the fire scenes quickly became ice-covered and slippery. Members from the WFPS Emergency Mechanical Services Branch were on-scene at the fires to quickly remedy break-downs as required.

Winnipeg, MB – Today, Mayor Bowman announced a $20,000 contribution to the legal challenge of Quebec’s Bill 21 being led by the National Council of Canadian Muslims, World Sikh Organization of Canada, and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association. This joins with the contributions being made by mayors and cities across the country.

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:57 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a garage fire in the 0 to 100 block of Pilgrim Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found two neighbouring garages engulfed in flames. A fire attack was launched and crews successfully prevented the fire from extending to nearby homes. The fire was declared under control at 8:36 p.m.

One individual was treated by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire at the construction site of a four-storey condominium complex in the 700 block of Kimberly Avenue.

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) released the results of a workplace culture survey, undertaken to better understand how its staff feels about their workplace and the department’s culture.

Workplace culture describes the formal and informal workplace environment, including how employees feel at work, and how they communicate with each other, engage in teamwork, and solve problems.

Winnipeg, MB – City crews are ready to serve and prepared to respond to the forecasted snowfall.

Crews are monitoring road conditions and stand ready to apply sand to improve traction on roadways throughout the city as required. Accumulations of snow will be monitored and further decisions will be made as the weather system passes through the city. Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near heavy equipment.

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:37 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey, single-family house in the 1100 block of Selkirk Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 6:06 p.m.
