One individual was treated by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Kimberly Fire Update

At 3:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022 the WFPS responded to a significant fire involving a four-storey condominium complex that was under construction in the 700 block of Kimberly Avenue. The fire extended to a neighbouring property, involving two additional condominium buildings and a parking garage.

Crews remained on scene through the night using aerial ladders and hose streams to bring the fire under control and extinguish hot spots. They were able to clear the scene at approximately 4:45 a.m. this morning. A fire watch has been established so crews will re-visit the site throughout the day to check for smoldering debris and hotspots. The Winnipeg Police Service remain at the scene at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. While no damage estimates are available at this time, the building under construction and the parking garage belonging to the neighbouring condo complex are considered total losses. The two condo buildings have suffered extensive fire, water and smoke damage.

It is not yet known when evacuees from those two buildings (765 and 775 Kimberly Avenue) will be able to access their suites. They are encouraged to connect with their insurance providers and reach out to their management company for updates.

Kimberly Avenue is now open to traffic. The City has graded ice from the road and applied sand and de-icing agents but drivers and pedestrians are asked to use caution in the area as slippery conditions may still be present.
